A cultura material no ensino de história

Abstract

This article makes reference to the use of the material culture in the teaching of History giving special emphasis to the Amazonian pottery of the past and present, and it was therefore proposed, firstly, to explain the concepts of material culture and cultural heritage in order to establish the relation of the archaeological ceramic vestiges with the local history. Understanding that material culture, through artifacts, is a rich learning tool in the construction of historical knowledge, in this sense, Amazonian ceramics can provide historical understandings of the local culture and identity present in techniques, traditions and customs of the ceramist peoples. Thus, contextualizing such objects, we have an aid to the teaching of history. We also present in this work a suggestion of activity for the teaching of History that articulates material culture with pottery, in a clear relation of past and present (changes and permanences) thus giving the possibility for the student to enter new paths in order to perceive that the historical understanding and learning is also made through the artifacts that are constructed and used in everyday life, both past and present.
