Expansão rápida da maxila assistida cirurgicamente relato de caso

Abstract

The rapid expansion of the surgically assisted maxilla (ERMAC) is an established surgical technique for correction of transverse maxilla deficits in patients who have reached skeletal maturity. It includes osteotomies in areas of bone resistance, with the purpose of assisting in the separation of the medial palatine suture and culminating in maxillary expansion, as well as reducing the effects of orthodontic inclination. There is considerable divergence regarding not only surgical techniques but also the types of anesthesia. It aims to restore the balance of the craniofacial complex and, consequently, to perform the functional and aesthetic correction of the malocclusions. The objective of this work is to report a clinical case treated in the Service of Residence in Buccomaxillofacial Surgery and Traumatology of the University of the State of Amazonas where ERMAC was chosen as a form of treatment. Its dento-skeletal effects were evaluated, as well as a brief literary review of its indications, limitations and advantages. The surgical technique used provided an adequate aid for the correction of the present transverse deficiencies. The procedure was successful, with no trans or postoperative discomfort, and the patient reported improvement in nasal breathing.
