Abstract: The present work was carried out in a terra firme area, located in the rural area of the municipality of Parintins / AM, with the main objective of characterizing the patterns of the open formation phytophysiognomy (islands), located in the São José site, supported by three objectives specific: Identify the main woody individuals existing in the open formation through the plots method; To describe the vertical profile of the predominant woody individuals, measuring the diameter and height of the Chest (DAP), height and stem of the tree and shrub species and To point out one of the forms of anthropic action that makes the landscape vulnerable and the loss of biodiversity in these areas in soils of white sand. This is justified because it seeks to know the physiognomic and particular aspects of the woody individuals existing in the open formation, being that the mentioned formation presents a certain degree of phyto-physiognomical similarity with the core area and aroused the interest in contributing with information on the subject , although they are few objects studied by local researchers in the scope of Geography. Methodologically, the work is divided in technical procedures that contributed with information to the understanding of the distribution of the individuals, being defined in: Bibliographic search, with the purpose of knowing the definitions, concepts and later to describe the characteristics of the individuals inside the landscape. Field research, which represents the direct contact of the researcher with studied object, and this work is based on a deductive and comparative approach, using the more general understanding to a particular domain, making possible the comparison of the landscape, seeking to understand the similarities and differences, using the plots methodology. Field surveys guided by bibliographical revisions enabled the description and distribution of the individuals, allowing the observation of a phyto - physiognomic type, characterized as a typical cerrado, because it has characteristics peculiar to the Cerrado of central Brazil. The studies about the open formations in Parintins / AM are very important, because in this happens a relationship between flora / fauna / society, in this triad nature is losing space to give place to the needs of man, threatening the survival of many species, but expects future works can catalog these islands in the farthest reaches of the Amazon.
