Povo, língua e cultura material Arawak: os debates atuais na arqueologia da Amazônia Central

Abstract

The Arawak-speaking peoples were at the moment of contact the indigenous groups of greatest spread by the South American continent according to historical accounts; they were geographically arranged from the Bahamas to Argentina and from the foothills of the Andes to the mouth of the Amazon River. Because of this, the studies of these peoples can be very important to understand the dynamics that occurred in the Amazonian territory in pre-colonial times. The present work seeks to highlight some of the work carried out in relation to these peoples, observing the main hypotheses for the occupation of the Amazon region, the contribution of the studies of the indigenous languages of the region and, finally, to highlight the current information on research developed in the archeology of central Amazon related to the expansion of Arawak peoples.
