Abstract

This work proposes to understand the possibility of using the plastic arts in the teaching of geography being a didactic resource in Elementary School, providing a contextualisation of the content passed in the classroom, so using the national, international and regional artists' screens contributes to the student's understanding and at the same time teaching becomes more interesting. The aim of this work was to enable the student to make geographic readings graphically projected on the canvases of plastic artists as well as the classics in the interaction of moments and space-time comprehension with each work presented in geography classes. The justification of the research was to use the use of artists' canvases in geography teaching, the process is not only to contemplate what is presented as a visual art, but to broaden the vision to understand the social, economic and cultural spaces of the past, as an exercise stimulus mental and enlargement of vision and the power of observation. This qualitative research sought to describe and interpret the data obtained. The modeling method was the phenomenological one where the student's perceptions, interpretations of the reading of each artistic work, or different conceptions were sought in the student. An interview was conducted with two plastic arts professors from the Liceu de Arte Institute (IRAPAM), who gave away the images of the canvases made by them, the images taken from reliable sites, three of them at the national level. 6th year of the fundamental evening in the State School Belém. Therefore, using this resource in the teaching of geography opens the student's opportunity to understand the geographical elements or geographical categories existing in each work visualized.
