Nubentes e conjuges na dramaturgia de Gonçalves Dias

Abstract

Approaching the works of Gonçalves Dias is to value Brazilian literature, since the poet was of great importance to our literature. Gonçalves Dias entered the most varied literary genres, making a brief passage in the drama genre with the writing of Patkull, Beatriz Cenci, Leonor de Mendonça and Boabdil. His dramaturgy was inspired by great historical events that marked his time. The central theme that stands out in the poet’s dramas is the prenuptial and marital relationship and the tragic outcome after accusations of alleged infidelity. The need to analyze the characters within these relationships will arise because we understand that women are seen and treated with inferiority - as a consequence of a patriarchal society they become victims of false accusations being taken to the extreme consequence, death. This research aims to understand the role of men and women in marital relationships represented in the dramaturgy of Gonçalves Dias.
