Violão em Manaus: um panorama de duas instituições públicas estaduais de ensino de música e da Orquestra de Violões do Amazonas

Abstract

The guitar has been present in Manaus since the end of the 19th century, as evidenced by periodical quotes from stores specializing in the sale of this instrument. In compliance with the request of the Amazonas State government, many music teachers came from other cities or countries to teach classes in public or private institutions. The research presents a panorama of the academic teaching of two public schools maintained by the State focused on the guitar and how these institutions influence the learning of the instrument in the city. Although this instrument is popular in Manaus, there must be specific information about the emergence of the instrument in the city, but the documented historical record is still scarce. This work also reports the application of knowledge in an orchestra or groups and some historical facts about the first registers of teachers / instrumentalists of the 19th and 20th centuries obtained in books, newspapers, websites, interviews, or any source that teaching evidences, providing possible continuity in elaboration of later works oriented to guitar practice and history in Amazonas.
